Phoenix Song Project proudly presents a five-week creative and therapeutic group songwriting workshop, open to anyone who identifies as transgender and/or nonbinary, regardless of musical experience. To take place on Mondays from 6:30pm, 8th-May to 5th-June, at Factory 8 in Bristol. We are a not-for-profit organisation and the group is free to attend; if you are in a position to make a donation, this would be appreciated.

Join Our Trans Choir!

Come join our trans-inclusive choir in Bristol!

Lots of trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming people often feel excluded or unsafe in traditional choirs. We don’t really need gender roles to come together and make music!

Everyone is welcome! Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced singer, a student, working, retired, no matter your gender identity – come sing!

Image shows a bearded person wearing a red formal dress. They are singing, have one hand on their hip, and the other gesturing into the air. They are in front of a purple background, with the Phoenix Song logo of a red, orange, and yellow Phoenix (a mythical bird) to one side. On the left side of the picture is a border of trans flag colours, and on the right side is a border of nonbinary flag colours.

We will be meeting weekly for rehearsals at Easton Community Centre, every Thursday 19.45-21.15, starting from 20/04/2023. The space is wheelchair-accessible and we are happy to cover your travel fees if needed! The suggested participation fee is £10 per session – however we will be going on a pay-as-you-can basis. If you cannot pay at all, that is no problem – please still get in touch! 🙂

We’re looking for (a) TPOC consultant(s)

Phoenix Song Project can offer you a budget of £1000-£2000 which you decide how to spend. This work will need to be completed by the end of June.

We’d like to know how we can better meet the needs of people of colour in trans and nonbinary communities.

It will be up to you how specifically or widely you throw the net; it doesn’t have to only be things we can do better, but might also be useful for other organisations who work creatively in mental health.

We have a few committee members with different skill sets ready to support you, but the reigns will be firmly in your hands.

Please contact us with a rough idea how you might do this consultation – we don’t expect details but would love to get a sense of your style of working. Questions etc are also welcome this way or via social media.

General Meeting 2021

Our annual general meeting for this year is now scheduled.

It’s happening online from 2.00-4.30pm on Saturday 25th September.

For agenda, reports, and other related documents, please click here.

The first and last 15 minutes of the time are not for general meeting business, but arrival, departure, that sort of thing. So, if you’re the type of person who tends to arrive 10 minutes late to everything, aim for 2.00 and the 15 minute window has you covered. And if you’re the sort of person who’d like some social time before or after getting to the nitty gritty of meeting business, these 15 minutes either side are designed for that too.

There will also be a short break mid-meeting.

Community involvement is central to what we do at Phoenix Song. We welcome involvement through the year, but the general meeting is specifically designed to give a change to feed back to us how we’ve done over the past year, hold us to account, and be part of shaping what’s next.

We’ll go through a summary of what we’ve done over the past year, and also a summary of accounts. There will be time to hear proposals for the organisation and our activities, share ideas, ask questions, and learn about what being on the committee is like and think if you would like to join us.

We welcome attendees from across trans and non-binary communities. You do not have to be based in Bristol, but it probably makes more sense if you’re someone who has, has thought about, or plans to come along to things we run – so location likely fits in there too.

If you cannot come along, please do still get in contact to feed in your ideas in the weeks before and after the meeting. We want to make this process as inclusive as we can, and that includes by maximising how people can take part even if they cannot get to the set meeting time. We can still include you in mail outs about agenda, reports, and proposals, and take your responses to these really seriously.

Please get in contact to arrange to come along.

Or you can drop us a line through social media.

(If you’re already in contact with Francis, it is absolutely fine to get in contact with them about attending too. We’re at an in-betweeny time when it comes to email addresses for Phoenix Song. If Francis is your go-to, use fmyerscoughmusictherapist@gmail.com.)
